The 2009 Royal Gold Medallist Álvaro Siza lectured to a sell-out audience in the RIBA’s Jarvis Hall on the evening of Wednesday 25 February. Siza’s theme was his first project in Brazil, the recently completed Museum for the Fundación of Iberê Camargo, the Brazilian artist (1914-94). In the space of an hour the Portuguese architect outlined the germ of the design idea and showed with a series of sketches the various iterations of the waterfront scheme in Porto Alegre.

The RIBA’s Head of Awards, Tony Chapman, a former BBC TV producer, spent more than two hours in conversation with the medallist in his office in Porto and filmed 20 of his buildings in Portugal, Spain and Holland. He made a 12 minute film about Siza and his work to be shown at the Royal Gold Medal Dinner, of which this is a shortened 7.5 minute version.
